After a long drive from Nevada, I am back home in Boise safe and sound. I’m not really crazy about driving through Nevada… the roads are pretty bad. I don’t remember having any issue with them on roadtrips with friends in years passed, but things are totally different in an 18,000 pound RV. You feel every bump and dip in the road and I-93 is one of the worst I have experienced so far. There is a 30-40 mile stretch between Ely and Wells which is especially rough. I find myself having to slow way down because it literally feels like something is going to shake loose and break. It’s kind of a bummer too because I-93 is the gate way from Idaho to beautiful weather, and I will have to drive this road again and again in the future during the winter time. I suppose you could say that everything good has a price, which is true, but honestly I think it would be great if they would just fix their roads.
I think about these roads often when I’m out there. Who built them and how? What were they like? You find these perfectly paved, smooth roads winding through mountain passes that have lasted for nearly a hundred years. Meanwhile in our modern cities they close off sections of the freeway for years at a time and spend millions of dollars to add one or two bumpy, embarrassingly uneven lanes. When did we lose the technology that these great men of the past used to build such beautiful roads out in the middle of nowhere? It makes me feel like something has been lost in the human spirit over the years, because I can’t imagine the tools used to build them have gotten worse in modern times.
Oh well, enough of that rant. It is Christmas time and I am home safe with my family. I’ll be here with them until after New Years enjoying a warm bed and delicious home cooked meals!
Since I don’t have a new adventure to share with you in this blog entry, I will instead add another video. In this one I discuss what I call “The Pull”. The Pull is that feeling you get when God is trying to lead you to something. It’s a desire that crops up inside of you from out of nowhere and, in my experience, always leads to life. In this video I share a story of one of the first times I felt The Pull and followed it. I hope you enjoy it!
