Summer of Service

September 5th, 2024 Busy day today, Christopher called looking for help with a few things around his house so I headed up to his place. His house is in a beautiful spot on the hill across from Living Waters overlooking the ranch. We spent the morning together tackling a few odd jobs. He had a squirrel that had built a nest on his roof that we tried to ferret out, and he had some heating […]

Back to Living Waters

August 20th, 2024 I pulled into Living Waters around 2:30 and called James to come meet me. I got set up and then James and I sat in his apartment for about an hour discussing things. It seems the season is slowing down, he anticipates Anthony and I only needing to cut the grass two more times this year. Other then that it will be a mix of maintaining the grounds, fixing things that break,

Slammin’ Salmon

August 7th, 2024 A bit of a rough start here in Salmon if I’m honest. I had several spots marked on my map I wanted to scout out for staying and they all ended up being duds. There was one right on the edge of town that ended up being just a big dirt lot that already had 3-4 people staying there. I had hoped this spot would work out since it would give me

Rivers of Living Water

July 26th, 2024 I have a bit of a rodent problem. This Watts Bridge campsite has been great the past few days, but I am hearing my rodent traps go off every single night. I have caught about 5 or 6 so far. I did some research online and found that peppermint oil is a natural repellent for rodents. There are countless sellers on Amazon that will sell you a spray bottle of the stuff

North to Stanley, Mistakes and learning

July 16th, 2024 It’s getting really hot here in Boise, over 100 degrees this next week. Why own an RV if you are not going to use it to escape blazing hot or freezing cold temperatures? Well that’s exactly what I am going to do.  But I’m not really sure which way to go. I have been trying to decide between heading west towards Oregon or north towards Montana. Both ways offer much better weather

Boise break and Story time

July 1st – July 17th, 2024 I took this couple weeks to spend some time with my family, reflect on the journey, and plan the next one. Boise is what I would call my “home base”. My parents have a lovely home here with a driveway that they let me clog up with my massive RV when I visit. We spend our time together cooking and sharing stories while playing dominoes and backgammon. I’ve gotten

Week 7

June 27th, 2024 The original plan was to go north from Wild Horse Reservoir along Highway 51 to find a dispersed camp site between here and Boise. The X factor I was not expecting was the crickets. The more north I went, the more mormon crickets gathered in massive patches along the road. They even seem to have nefarious motives as to where they choose to gather. I found them the most concentrated in tight

Week 6

June 23rd, 2024 Wild Horse was about 60 miles straight north of Elko and I was pretty much the only person on the road heading that way. I was only passed by a single car on the way there, which was also the only other car I saw heading north on that road the whole trip. The drive was easy and relaxed except for the patches here and there of Mormon Crickets on the road.

Week 5

June 12th, 2024 As I was releasing the leveling jacks I looked down the dirt path that would lead me back on to the road and noticed a couple were walking around down at the end taking pictures. It was Wayne and Carol! They had come up the hill to see me off and spot me while climbing out of the ditch I had dove into to get to this spot. As I approached they

Week 4

I have decided to go ahead and make the push all the way to Angel Lake near Wells, Nevada. The temperature is supposed to be around 90 for the rest of the week, which means it will be more like 100 in the RV when the sun gets high in the sky. I think the extra couple thousand feet of elevation should make for some much better temperatures, and besides, I just have that feeling
