These books have brought a wealth of healing and knowledge into my life. I pray they can do the same for you.
Wild at Heart (for men) and Captivating (for women) by John Eldredge
Wild at Heart was the book I found sitting in a drawer the day after I was saved by God. As I read through it, every page felt like it was written directly to me. There is an immeasurable amount of healing to be found for men and women in these books. John Eldredge has a way of presenting God to us that helps us form a fast and deep relationship with Him. He presents Him in a way that makes Him Father, Friend, Lover and Warrior all at once. Through his text, Eldredge uncovers the wounds that we suffer in our youth and throughout our lives and helps us bring them to God to be healed. I cannot recommend these books enough, and I bring several copies of both with me everywhere I go to give to people I find that need them.
Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis
This is a classic that every Christian should read if they have not already. Lewis organizes iron clad logical arguments as to why Christianity is the one true religion of our almighty God. Lewis tackles the fundamentals of Christianity and puts to bed any doubts that may linger within your faith. This is one of those books that will leave you stronger than when you picked it up. A must read.
Experiencing God by Henry Blackaby and Claude King
This is a wonderful text recommended to me by a friend I worked with volunteering at a church thrift store in Challis. This book is all about growing closer to God and paying attention to what He is doing in and around you. The best things in life come from seeing where God is working and moving to join Him there. This book will help you to recognize His work all around you and encourage you to get involved. God has a plan for you… this book will help you to listen to what He is saying and give you the courage to experience it with Him.
The Pursuit of God by A.W. Tozer
“We pursue God because, and only because He has first put an urge within us that spurs us to the pursuit.”
This book is all about the innate human need for God… not only our pursuit of Him, but His pursuit of us. Tozer lays out practical ways for us to build our lives on a foundation of God. He created us to love Him, and Tozer helps us to understand this pull that we have towards our creator and to grow our loving relationship with Him.
Beyond Jabez by Bruce Wilkinson
I found this book randomly at a Harvest Host location that I was visiting in Nevada and it sort of “called out” to me. This is a follow up book for The Prayer of Jabez, that I have not yet read. This book expands on the power of the prayer that Jabez made to God in the Book of Chronicles 4:10 of the Bible. This prayer asks God to bless us abundantly, enlarge our influence, guide our ways, and protect us from evil. It is a wonderful prayer to add to your daily devotions and this book provides numerous stories of this prayer having a powerful impact in people’s lives. God wants to bless us, so go ahead and ask!
Hearing God by Dallas Willard
This book does exactly what it says on the cover, helps us form a conversational relationship with God. He wants to hear from us, all the time. He is always with us, always listening. Willard helps us to open our hearts to God and not just speak at Him all the time, but learn to hear what He is saying in return. God communicated with us all the time in many different ways, Willard helps us to tap into that and not just speak but also listen and helps us take our relationship with God to a whole other level.
Walking with God by John Eldredge
Realistically, this spot is basically reserved for the collective works of John Eldredge. Every one of his books is a treasure. He has a way of presenting God to us that I find unique and infinitely compelling. I did not know God growing up. He was always there, but I was never raised with any real ideas of who God is or what He is like. Eldredge has helped me to see that God is my best friend, my loving father, and the love of my life. There isn’t a book he has written that won’t give you profound new insight into the nature of our Lord and continue to build upon your love for Him. Eldredge guides us through all of the ups and downs that we experience in our lives and shows us God working in all of them.
